On an impulse, Freddie at 25, returns for the first time to South Korea where she was born. The young woman throws herself ardently into the search for her roots in this country, foreign to her, and sends the course of her life in new and unexpected directions. “I was born in France to parents born in Cambodia and went there for the first time when I was 25 years old. My relationship to the country was similar to that of Freddie at the beginning of the film. I was far from suspecting that this urge towards my roots would affect the way I saw myself to such an extent. Life makes us reconfigure identities, our relationship to the world and to ourselves. The line which interested me, from my position as a French filmmaker of a different race, is the path of a character who constantly refuses to be part of a predefined category or that someone else speaks in their name. Freddie spends her time reinventing herself, reconstructing and reaffirming herself. It is the universal theme of identity. Who am I? Where do I belong? How do I stand with regard to others? ”
