Ricky, a young Australian of Palestinian origin, is living a quiet life with his wife and daughter. When his sister Ameena, a committed slammer, disappears, she is immediately suspected of going off to join the Islamic State in Syria. Who should he believe when doubt and suspicion are raised? His intuition or the media? In this thriller, the themes treated are universal: cultural assimilation, islamophobia and religious extremism. “On arriving in Australia, I was struck by the singularity of the multicultural Australian story. I grew up in the highly diversified society of the city of Mumbai, surrounded by people coming from a multitude of different ethnies and beliefs. At the time, being a Muslim, as were many of my friends and colleagues, was just a fact of life. Today, however, Muslims are the new pariahs, whether it be in Australia, America or Europe. Living in Sydney and interacting with the inhabitants from the western suburb, the impact locally after September 11th seemed flagrant.” Partho Sen-Gupta, French film producer of Indian origin.
