Esmail, a charming, young Iranian, lives in Denmark where he works as a removal man. However, when evening draws in, he goes out in the classy areas of the town to charm young women, hoping in that way to find a wife and get a residence permit. When he meets Sara, everything is disrupted. On the point of getting what he wants, he is being followed by a mysterious man. “My idea was not to make a political film but to underline the psychological, and individual aspects related to the fact of being a foreigner in a foreign country. As I was born in Iran, I know what it’s like to be divided between two cultures. Having said that, my story and that of Esmail are not at all similar. I arrived in Sweden at the age of six and I had a happy childhood. Esmail is more an object of fascination than an object of identification and I hope the public will understand it in that way... What interests me is to explore this existential solitude and the quest for belonging. I think that both this feeling of not belonging and the struggle to find one’s place in the world are universal.” Milad Alami
