Antonio LeBlanc is always being asked where he comes from. Born in Korea, he was adopted by American parents when he was three years old. In spite of a difficult childhood, he felt at home in the United States. Today he lives in the state of Louisiana with his wife, Kathy and his step-daughter, Jessie. The three of them live a simple albeit happy life. Until the day he finds himself facing a hostile police officer in a supermarket. Antonio is arrested and threatened with expulsion back to his home country which he does not know. Legally, he is not an American citizen and, what’s more, he has a police record. The director, Justin Chon, acts with Alicia Vikander in this deeply moving melo- drama.
“As a child, in Los Angeles, I used to hang around with loads of kids who came from Korea and had been adopted, and I always felt there was a huge difference between their path of life and mine, I who was born here. It’s something which is essentially American and yet it’s never shown in films”. Justin Chon
