Issa, a sixty-year-old fisherman, is secretly in love with Siham, who works as a seamstress in the market. He wants to ask for her hand in marriage. It’s at that very moment that he finds an antique statue of the god Apollo in his fishing net, and decides to hide it at home. When the local authorities find out about the existence of this awkward treasure trove, problems start for Issa. “The people of Gaza know all about suffering and war but all the same they are living their lives, which means they have a daily life, loving relationships, hopes and dreams. We want to film all that, without transforming the reality of Gaza into something more beautiful or more ugly than it already is. By filming everyday life in Gaza, we are filming the conflict, even if we don’t mention it directly. In fact, we film what the conflict engenders rather than the conflict itself... I often think about my family still living over there and I wonder how they manage to get on with life while putting up with this situation.” Tarzan Nasser
