Directors' Fortnight - Cannes 2007
In a poor area of Manila, Thelma is employed by local social services to bring up abandoned children before their legal adoption. Today, John John, whom Thelma took care of for three years, will be given to his American adoptive parents. While the day is going by, every moment spent with the boy becomes more and more precious.
“I felt strong affinities with John John, as I am myself the adoptive father of a little girl who came into my life and made the sun enter my gloomy existence… I am very influenced by cinema-vérité. I wanted the camera to reflect the point of view of someone not related to the events taking place, as though an outsider was observing.” Brillante Mendoza
