We are in Bhubhaneswar in Odisha (earlier named Orissa) where three women have to make choices, at times conflict. To decide to follow the tradition or to open to modernity are essential choices for them, just as for the city with its very ancient temples and a future still uncertain. Nila is an aged widow having a reclusive life. Vijaya is also a widow but she is young and scared to face her own feelings. Sonia is a student who questions women position and their future.
This film with powerful poetical images and meditative rhythm was selected at Cannes Film Festival for the Caméra d'Or (Golden Camera) competition in 1994. It represents a form of odiya auteur cinema still little known in India as on the international level.
