A Seven days long fire has completely destroyed the world we knew. Earth is sterile, covered with insects and giant poisonous mushrooms. The planet is invaded by the toxic Sea of Corruption. Nausicaa is the daughter of Jihl, the king of a small preserved kingdom in the Valley of the Wind. She is able to fly as a bird and has a special and mysterious connection to nature. She can even communicate with the giant insects called Oomu. A war starts in order to rule the remaining lands. In a race against the clock, Nausicaa endeavours to prevent the two enemies from using their weapons of massive destruction.
This fabulous adventure questions with lucid yet intimate terms, the personal and universal issue of the future of man and his humanity within an environment he entirely took for granted as his own appropriation. The film only depicts the first two volumes of the story which altogether has seven ones.
Made in 1982, this was the very first Japanese animation to gain world recognition.
