In June 2009, Azedeh and Keveh are students in Tehran. Like other generations before them, as the presidential elections approach, they start dreaming about possible democratic transition in Iran. They are going to be carried away on this “green wave” which engulfed the country. From the very first revolt to bloody repression, they tell us of their struggle, their hopes, their fears and their suffering. The Tehran Awakening combines scenes filmed on-the-spot and relayed all over the world via the social media, with eye-witness accounts and lively sequence shots which take us to the heart of this people’s revolution, as close as you can get to its participants.
“Iran is a nation of bloggers. Thousands of young people talk about what they’re feeling, and write about what they think in their blogs. If I could no longer make my film in Iran, and interview people there, these blogs would be a good means for the voice of the people to be heard.” Ali Samadi Ahadi
