On March 11th 2011, Japan is shaken by an earthquake, followed by a tsunami and the triple nuclear catastrophe of Fukushima. The staff of the Prime Minister, Kan Naoto, try to deal with this situation. What really happened in the Prime Minister’s residence when the worst crisis in the country’s history came to a head ? Has the truth of the matter really come out ?
“We thought it was necessary to make a film in which different voices could be heard, with the Cabinet members at the centre, but also the journalists on the look-out for a scoop, the workers from the nuclear power station as well as the inhabitants of the surrounding villages... Depending on who it was experiencing the events, their feelings about it varied immensely. In order to make a film which could bear witness to this story in all its diversity, we decided to adopt the different points of view of the pro- tagonists. It wasn’t possible to put across this reality in any other way.” Satō Futoshi
