In a Bedouin encampment, in the desert of the Arab peninsula, it’s 1916, under British occupation, and young Theeb, 10 years old, lives with his elder brother, Hussein, who passes down ancestral traditions to him. One night, a British officer invites himself into their community: Hussein agrees to help him find a well, on the road to Mecca. But Theeb refuses to let his brother go alone and decides to follow them at a distance...
“Bedouin customs originate in their environment, the desert. The Bedouins are well-known for their sense of hospitality because in the desert you have to be able to count on the help of others to survive. The land is too arid, food and water too scarce for them to act selfishly. People have no other choice but to help each other out in order to sur- vive... What happens when you find yourself isolated in the company of your worst enemy and that you need him to survive? How can the relationship develop?” Nabi Abu Nowar
