In Palestine, three sisters born into the Christian aristocracy, have lost their lands and their social status following the Six Day War with Israel in 1967. Unable to face up to this new reality, they withdraw from the rest of the world by shutting themselves up in their villa so as to cling to their past life. It does not take long for the arrival of their young niece, Badia, to upset their routine, and even more so as they come up with the idea of finding her a husband.
“I wanted to make a different sort of film, to put the Palestinians into the limelight with their lives and their personal dignity. Everything which has the slightest relation to the occupation has already been dealt with. As a Palestinian woman living in my country without really having a country, I‘m aware that, like a lot of other Palestinian film-producers, I write films about the occupation without realising it. It’s perhaps because of the fact that the occupation is present all around me: the soldiers, the border controls, the walls and the dead... I wanted to tell the story of these three sisters who stopped the passage of time in their home so as not to face up to outside events.” Suha Arraf
