Lulu Wang was born in Beijing to a diplomat father and a mother, editor-in-chief of the Beijing Literary Gazette. She spent her early years in Beijing and then emigrated to Miami with her parents. A classically trained pianist, she gave up a career in music when she was at university. She holds a degree in music and literature from Boston College, takes production courses and directs short films. She then moved to Hollywood.
