In the year 2000, Sami was the translator for the Olympic team from Syria in Sydney. A lapsus when he was translating obliged him to stay in Australia, where he obtained the status of political refugee. In 2011, the Syrian revolution broke out and Sami’s brother was arrested during a peaceful demonstration. In spite of the danger, he decided to take the risk and return to Syria to set him free. “Although we’re Syrian and we were living in Damas at the time, we grew up in France and in the United States. We had passports that gave us the privilege of leaving the country whenever we liked. It was terrible for us to realise that. It’s real, but humiliating. And although we fully admitted that making a film about the revolution amounts to little compared to those who risked their lives to take part in it, this film represents all the same the need to bear witness. Our main character, Sami, is no different from us.” Rana Kazkaz and Anas Khalaf
