Jean-Baptiste Phou was born in France to Chinese-Cambodian parents. He is an author, director and multidisciplinary artist. First an actor, he began his artistic career in Cambodia and the United States in musicals. Artistic director of his company, he then moved on to writing and directing plays, including Cambodia, here I am and The Anarchist adapted from the novel by Soth Polin. He explores other mediums such as sound, photography, installation and performance. My Mother's Tongue is his first film.
