In China, in 1936, Ip Man, the legendary master of Wing Chun and Bruce Lee’s future mentor, leads a prosperous life in Foshan where he shares his time between his family and the martial arts. This is at the time when the GrandMaster, Baosen, at the head of the Order of Chinese Martial Arts, is looking for someone to succeed him. For his leaving ceremony, he travels to Foshan, with his daughter Gong Er, herself master of the Ba Gua style, and the only one to practise the fatal figure of the 64 hands. During this ceremony, Ip Man fights the great masters of the south and there meets Gong Er in whom he finds his match. Very quickly, admiration gives way to desire and unveils a story of impossible love ...
“In my opinion, Ip Man was a great mind, a very elegant man, extremely gentle and highly cultivated. When he fought, a metamorphosis took place and he became cruel, almost bestial ... Ip Man made Bruce Lee realise that kung-fu was not only a physical activity or an auto defence technique, but a form of spirituality and philosophy of life.” Tony Leung
