In 2007, in Teheran, Reyhaneh Jabbari, 19 years old, stabs to death the man who is about to rape her. She is accused of murder and condemned to death. From a series of pictures, filmed secretly, Seven winters in Teheran shows how her family fought to save Reyhaneh, who has become the symbol of the struggle for women's rights in Iran. “Shole, Reyhaneh’s mother, has carried on campaigning in Iran, following Reyhaneh’s death. She has formed the group “Madaraneh” (Motherhood) with other mothers to fight against the death penalty. Which has been the cause of her undergoing a series of interrogations. When her other daughters were clearly threatened and a close campaigner friend imprisoned, Shole left for Turkey with her daughter, Shahrzad ... I hope that through the film people will no longer see just statistics, but will be moved by the destinies behind the numbers and realise that there is a mother like Shole, a father like Fereydoon and brothers and sisters like Sharare and Shahrzad.” Steffi Niederzoll
A moving film and a major, pressing issue.
