After a life-long struggle against illiteracy, Bishnumaya Gurung, 48, and Palhamu Sherpa, 66, two women from rural Nepal, are going back to primary school today with their grandchildren. The film explores what motivates these women and what they hope to achieve in the future.
"It was upon talking to my mother, who is also an adult learner, that I decided to make a film about adult women attending classes. It is a love letter to her and all the brave women who are not afraid of fulfilling their dreams. As I began to understand the lives of these women more clearly, I also began to see my mother's life from a new angle. Considering her as an individual, independent from her life as my mother, has, in many respects, transformed our relationship. So I hope that this film will continue to remind us that we see each other in a different light, that we find new ways of communicating and that we still dream together. " Shuvangi Khadka
