Who is this strange boy quietly sitting in a corner of the bus full of wild supporters, on their way to a football match? This shy boy is in reality a girl who disguised herself. In Iran, women also love football, but since the 1979 Islamic revolution they are not allowed to enter stadiums. Before the match starts, the young girl is arrested and handed over to the vice squad.
Outside the stadium where the qualifying match against Bahrain is taking place, she is cooped up with other girls who also attempted to see the match by all means. Young soldiers obeying orders are keeping them. These young conscripts can easily understand the desires and the craving of their generation. They are requested to impose interdictions and do not always feel comfortable with it.
“I wanted to spark off awareness. To make the Western world understand that in Iran there are many people who cannot enjoy fundamental freedom, and that they cannot always live a normal life.” Jafar Panahi
