During a bright spring afternoon, a group of friends are picnicking to celebrate their reunion. Yongho, a friend they had not heard from for years, suddenly appears. He behaves in a strange way avoiding the group and runs towards the railway tracks on top of a close-by bridge. A train is moving forward. Yongho does not move… Going back in time in a fascinating way, we see the stream of Yongho’s life passing by. His story is also the history of Korea.
"Peppermint Candy looks inside those individuals who have suffered loss, and who have forgotten what is important with the flow of time. This is about cutting open the buried loss, about waking up lost time…Time is really the essence of film… I don't go back in time for nostalgic reasons, nor to place importance on the past over the present. Rather, I see as the chance of young people today to identify with the young of the past, and perhaps gain some wisdom from their predecessors." Lee Chang-dong
