In a mining village from the Kangwon region, Young-lim is a nineyear- old girl living with her father and brother. She likes to sing nursery rhymes, to dance in front of the TV and to play with her elder brother who is a little retarded. When her father loses his job because of his health, her whole world is shuttered. She is now alone to look after her brother and their home. She manages to do it in her own way. Life is both hard and tender in this single-parent family.
Avoiding falling into melodrama, Jeon Soo-il succeeds to move us with a very well crafted photography where black and white is lit with patches of colors. He has cast an outstanding girl, Yu Yun-min, whose presence is full of reflection, courage and liveliness, and who is a remarkable performer.
