Nansal is a six-year-old elder daughter of a family living in the northern part of Mongolia. One day, she finds a small wild dog while she is walking in the mountain, and takes it back to the camp. Her father fears the animal is unlucky and asks her to get rid of it at once. Nandal does not obey her father and decides to hide the animal. One day, her family has to move to a new pasture…After a heroic deed, the dog is finally accepted.
This traditional tale reveals the ancestral link between man and dog in Mongolia, at the heart of the cycle of reincarnations.
The Cave of the Yellow Dog is Byambasuren Davaa's second film after The Story of the Weeping Camel. The beauty of landscapes and three natural and mischievous young children, turn this tale into a charming film.
