In Korea, under the Chosun dynasty ruling over the whole country in the 16th century, Jang-seng and Gong-gil are two actors travelling together all over the places. Jang-seng convinces Gong-gil to perform in Hanyang, the capital , hoping to become rich. Once in the capital they are arrested, accused of insulting King Yunsan in their burlesque performance of a king and his court. Jang-seng suggests a mad bet: they will be free if they manage to make the King laugh. Gong-gil, who by nature is quite reserved, performs in such an impressive way that he causes the hilarity of the King. They won the bet. They are not only safe, but they can also stay in the palace. A new relationship starts between the King and Gong-gil…
Inspired by a musical, the film is an amazing performance of colours, costumes, movements. It got a huge national and international success.
