Encouraged by her friend Kiran, twenty-two-year-old Diya desires to become a professional dancer. While her parents pledge her hand to a stranger, her friendship with Kiran becomes passionate. Defying morality and tradition, Diya brutally breaks up with her fiancé to live with her friend. By affirming their singularity, the young women risk a real danger.
“The film takes place in today Nepal. It echoes the socio-cultural problems linked to the issues of gender and more precisely female homosexuality. Though it is common among the Nepalese society, women cannot openly talk about their sexuality. The Nepalese homosexual women have insurmountable problems because society is not aware of their difficulties, or not yet ready to be aware. Most lesbian women are forcibly married to men they do not want.” Subarna Thapa.
