Son of distinguished Mongolian film director Jigjid Dejid, Binder struggles to meet the multiple challenges of surviving artistically and financially in the market economy. Binder is so fiercely passionate about cinema that he makes films with zero budget and roams the countryside to screen his melodramas to isolated nomads in the steppes. He ponders about his life as both a man and an artist in front of director Byamba Sakhya’s camera.
Richly layered with different perspective and paradoxical context Passion tells the compelling story of a complex relationship between artists and the system and the impact of social and political transition on individual destiny. While his father was artistically restricted under Communist regime, his son is financially limited under new capitalist era. The documentary becomes the touching portrayal of a simple man.
