Situated in the centre of Jaffa, a town nicknamed “the fiancée of the sea” by the Palestinians, Reuven’s garage is a family business. His daughter, Mali, and his son, Meir, both work there, as well as Toufik and Hassan, a young Palestinian and his father. No one suspects that Mali and Toufik fell in love with each other years ago. While the two young lovers prepare for their marriage in secret, tension mounts between Meir and Toufik.
Two couples : on the one hand, the parents living in quasi-autarchy. We can say that Reuven saved the life of his wife, Osnat. He protects her, comforts her, gives her strength and everything else she needs: the father she has lost, the love she has never had, and on the other hand, the impossible union of Mali and Toufik.
“Keren wanted to make a popular film with disturbing content, dealing with themes that we evoke infrequently in daily life, and perhaps even less in the artistic sphere. She wants to reach out to the Israeli public and talk to them with love, tenderness and humanity about these subjects.” Ronit Elkabetz
