Zaza has his back up against the wall. He is nearly 32 years old and his family would like him to get married as soon as possible. According to tradition, it is his duty to choose a beautiful, young virgin from a good, preferably wealthy family. Yasha and Lily, Zaza’s parents, are convinced their son is truly wonderful, intelligent, charismatic and handsome. After many meetings with prospective brides and their families, he has always managed to avoid getting engaged. Zaza’s parents don’t know he is already in love ... with a divorcée who has a child.
“The younger generations often find their elders’ traditions outdated. Late Marriage doesn’t explore the cultural traditions of a specific social group. Rather, the theme it deals with is an individual’s right to freedom taking into account the duties he has towards his loved ones. I don’t believe a film should be pure comedy or drama. I’ve always tried never to let either of these aspects prevail and endeavoured to slip into every scene of the film a little bit of the gene of humour that keeps watch over my destiny.” Dover Kosashvili.
