Lee Isaac Chung, whose family is originally from Korea, was born in Denver, Colorado in 1978. He grew up in Lincoln, on a small farm in Arkansas. He studied biology at Yale University and then obtained a master's degree in cinema at the University of Utah. His first feature film, Munyurangabo, a drama about a Rwandan family, was presented in 2007 at the Cannes Film Festival in the Un Certain Regard section. The film gets very rave reviews and wins several awards.
