In Kerala, Rudra, a Bengali migrant idol-maker, desperately needs help for the cremation of his uncle, Chaavi, a Tamil midwife moonlights as a funeral priest, form a fragile bond which is threatened when she is accused of a heinous crime.
"Films entertain our senses and engage our minds, and in rare cases, they can actually inspire social change. Eleven years after the horrific Delhi rape and murder case, ironically called "Nirbhaya" (fearless), the attitude towards rape and women's rights has not changed much in India. Although Indian culture is praised for its deference towards women as goddesses, India seems to show a lot less respect for ordinary women. Although they are illegal, criminal offences such as female infanticide, dowry deaths, honour crimes and rapes are common and often go unreported. The legal proceedings in these cases are generally delayed or denied." Tara Ramanujan
