Grandfather Hayung has spent his life observing the gaga - the spiritual traditions of the Tayal indigenous peoples. Apart from his family, few inhabitants of the village observe the gaga today. That is the case of the mayor, Toli, who has started encroaching on Hayung’s land. Frustrated by this disrespectful act, Pasang, his eldest son, is a candidate in the local elections in spite of his family’s opposition, in the hope of recuperating his family’s status. However, political competition, an unexpected pregnancy and quarrels in married life threaten the campaign - and divide the community even more. The whole family is at the point of collapse and the village sees snow falling for the first time in many years. As the snow melts, new lives appear. The broken down family starts coming back together.
With a group of big-hearted, non-professional actors, Lala Mebow, the first native, female filmmaker from Taiwan, draws a tender portrait in this heart-warming comedy of the complexities of modern family life, preserving a link with traditional culture.
