Zhi-Wei and Su-Fei are a Taiwanese couple past the age of forty, whose life is distinguished by routine and a certain discontent. Zhi-Wei sees Amanda again, the girlfriend he had when he was studying in France, and who is spending a night in Taiwan, a night during which all the suffering he has buried deep within comes to the surface. “How, when you have suffering inside yourself, can you try to go beyond it, how do you go from dark to light? Are you ready to move on and to somehow bury the pain deep down and carry on living?” J.-R. Thomann
This very touching, medium length film is not a musical, however all the dialogues are sung. All through the film, the characters put their deepest feelings into song, accompanied by a minimal orchestra playing music which is a mix between western and Taiwanese styles.
