A 30-year-old man and his 35-year-old girlfriend, married to another man, have a secret relation in a museum-house of Bakou where she works as a guide. He is a modern painter who makes a living engraving portraits of the deceased on gravestones, a common practice in Azerbaijan. One day, he finds himself face-to-face in the kitchen with his father, who has just come out of prison for killing his wife, after being granted amnesty for good behavior. « Families have always fascinated me, as micro-models of society. In my first movie, I explained a generational conflict within a family, from the father’s point of view. In this new film, I have focused on the son’s point of view, the anti-hero of a changing society. He has left the values of the old world behind, but he hasn’t changed them for new ones. He doesn’t assess them as a Muslim or an Asian anymore, but he doesn’t realize that he’s far from the artistic and cosmopolitan atheist that he aspires to be. The son’s life is unsettled by the father’s return, and he realizes that he cannot break the generational shackles. The son looks like his father more than he wants to admit. » Asif Rustamov
