Sean, Ricky and Sean’s girlfriend attend a rock concert at an evangelical megachurch, where the pastor gives a virulently anti-LGBTQ+ sermon. YouTuber Sean gets in trouble for making a saucy vlog lashing out at the pastor. He is prosecuted with a defamation lawsuit for violating Singapore’s laws. As Sean’s mental state deteriorates in prison, his gay twin brother Ricky becomes a leading LGBTQ activist. “Look at Me depicts a society which is convinced that a compromise between prosperity and freedom is necessary. It shows how the state and the population are complicit in maintaining discriminatory laws and in applying laws that restrict civil liberties in Singapore... Although the movie is not just about minorities, it nonetheless depicts a family in which a young gay man is accepted and loved by his mother and his brother in a very casual way. Nancy Marzuki’s constant support for her sons in their fight against social and legal pressure and against the threats of the evangelical right are inspired by actual events.” Ken Kwek
