« 1984 » was written in 1948 and it belongs to the kind of books both very simple and complex, that people read at the age when they are adolescent or adult. How can such a novel about dictatorships considered as one of the major visionary work of literature in the century, still concern us today?
Alain Mazars’ film progresses like an investigation on the trail of Orwell during his five years spent in Burma. His life in Burma is symbolic from a western point of view about colonial past. His whole body of work has been marked by a feeling of guilt and a desire to expiate mistakes of past. With his exigent and gripping film, Alain Mazars tries to enlighten the British writer’s work with its surprisingly visionary nature about the future of today’s world. The destiny of Burma today is the very first of his predictions.
A western writer nurtures his thoughts about his eastern experience and reaches out to the universal.
