“Chungking Mansion” is a real small town within the town. Located in the heart of the Tsim Sha Tsui area, a highly touristic place of Kowloon, this labyrinth of hotels, shopping arcades and restaurants opened days and nights, is the meeting place of a heteroclite population of penniless backpackers, immigrants from all over Asia and petty criminals from the mafia. In such micro society living without any contact with the outside world, people meet without noticing each other…
May 1st: A young cop ditched by beautiful May drowns his sorrow in a bar. He meets a trafficker woman with a blond wig wearing a rain coat and sun glasses, who has just been fooled by an Indian family.
At the Midnight Express, fast-food Faye is a pretty twenty-year-old blond who daily meets policeman 663 when he buys a chef salad for his sweet-heart, an air hostess.
The whole of Wong-Kar-wai atmosphere is found in these two stories which have in common to take place in the fascinating city of Hong Kong.
