In the small town of Takua Pa, in south of Thailand, Ton is a young architect appointed to supervise the reconstruction of a hotel chain, on the sea shore recently devastated by the tsunami. As soon as he reaches Bangkok, he chooses a modest hotel inland run by Na, a young discrete woman with subtle charm. They gradually establish a relationship of tenderness and love each other with a sense of modesty and restraint. But this is not to everyone’s likings, especially in the case of Na’s brother, a lazy lout whose young child is devotedly taken care of by his wife.
“Wonderful Town first appeared to me as a love story. There is something sad about the city of Takua Pa. I thought that the contrast between such sadness and the vitality of a love story could be interesting… I added the tsunami context only later.” Aditya Assarat.
