Hong Kong,1987: a young pale woman, dressed as in 1930, meets journalist Yuan-ting. Fleur is a beautiful woman, strange and lonely. She is a ghost. Hong-Kong, 1934: Fleur, a famous courtesan, falls in love with Chen-pang, one of her clients. He is a rich heir living under the thumb of his authoritarian mother and shares with Fleur the same passion for opera. The announcement of their wedding turns in a real drama. They have no other choice than suicide. They promise each other to meet in heaven. 53 years later, Fleur who is still alone, decides to come back on earth and search for Chen-pang. Yuan-ting and his fiancée Chu are moved by her story and decide to help her.
Rouge, the Hong Kong Ghost is not like any other ghost movie. Fleur is depicted as a fragile and very human woman. It is an intimist, attaching and elegant film which got many awards.
