One night, ten-year-old Arshia hears a violent fight between his parents and guesses their hasty departure. Next morning, his uncle and aunt, both deaf-mutes, decide to leave with him and search for his parents who disappeared. While they cross the country from the Iranian mountains to Teheran, the couple recalls all the years of their common life and they sort a few things out, under the eyes of the young boy.
Mourning is a road-movie with a couple and a child. “ It is a triangular relationship I found interesting: the couple talks of the accident convinced that the child cannot understand and that he is therefore temporarily protected from the pain he will feel later, when they find the best way to tell him the terrible news. This situation only occurs because the adults speaking a language of signs believe that the young boy has no understanding of what is happening when they all sit in the car.” Morteza Farshbaf.
The road and its dangers revealing the human soul.
