Pyongyang (North Korea). In a dark living room of an apartment, married couple Rhee Jung-nim and Jung Man-il are watching a pornography video with large headphones on. On the wall are portraits of Kim Il-dung and Kim Jung-il. The radio is blaring out People’s pop songs. Jung Man-il, who goes back and forth between China and North Korea for business, gets turned in for possessing foreign products and pornography. He barely gets his wife out of the country and is arrested by the North Korean security forces. Jung-nim arrives in South Korea, and after a basic interrogation, becomes a free South Korean citizen. Next to her is Kim Soo-jin, who is assigned by the government to help her adjust to her new life. Soo-jin always consults Jung-nim and also keeps an eye on her. Jung-nim tries to forget her life in North Korea by volunteering and getting a job. She tries hard to adjust. Despite her efforts, she can’t forget her husband in North Korea, and she spends her time sitting at home watching the videos they used to watch together.
