An old man is driving his van in the countryside to distribute books to young girls who are impatiently waiting for his arrival. He is but an illiterate man. He is just carrying on his wife's work, now that she has expired : " bringing enlightenment " to women in Iran. This old man is called " Uncle Hossein Esfandyari " and his journey is the thread of this documentary where women from all ages and social conditions share their daily life with us, their confinement, their despair, as well as their hope and at times their rebellion. Young or aged, teachers or students, with great sensitivity each of them informs us about the real nature of their situation, and also interpellates us. They remind us what it means to live in a country were the position of women is recognised, and that we might have forgotten how education, intellectual curiosity and culture are the most efficient means to get equal rights in society. The film ends in an audio-visual class in a college. Will the moving imageallow women to express themselves and find their right place?
