Hard times. Military goverment rules the country. Yilmaz,”Yol”'s famous director, is transferred to another prison. During the journey, his wife, one of his friends from jail and a young director follow him in a car. The car stops at a motel for the night. Here, the young director tries to break free from his own prison and confronts his master, whereas he is actually still under his master's influence.
“I composed this story inspired from a journey I made with Yilmaz Güney. It is based on my real experience, but I slightly reshaped it, adding or subtracting some pieces. On the Way is a film about freedom and captivity. It is the story of people whose souls are under oppression in any country, anywhere at any time. This is not a period film, it is a long term film. The protagonist manages to stand tall and survive against all odds, and yet he is a loser”. Erden Kiral
