Director Nobuhiro Suwa has gathered a team in Hiroshima, his native town, to shoot a remake of Alain Resnais's film Hiroshima My Love. Actress Béatrice Dalle and cinematographer Caroline Champetier have joined Suwa to assist him in this delicate historical re-creation. Can one shoot such film forty years later without knowing the war and its damages? Cultural gap, times gap, language gap, the remake is not possible. A second film then starts, it is the encounter between an actress and a Japanese writer communicating in silence. Hiroshima is introduced without being shown; the heavy past is present without being evocated.
Should one do a remake or make differently? This Franco-Japanese collaboration with camerawoman Caroline Champetier and actress Béatrice Dalle will be carried with the film A Perfect Couple.
