On his 40th birthday , a man engineers a revolt against himself. He invites his four lovers to a dance class where he teaches. They are shocked to discover that they have been sharing his affections. He tries to explain his actions, reviews each of his affairs, discuss with them passion, possession, time and how love blossoms from even the smallest seed. He gives each woman a parting gift - a stopwatch- and asks them to measure each minute of true love that they experience from then on.
“These four women in fact represent one woman to me in four different phases in the evolution of the meaning of love and in a feminine life experience: “Period of romantic innocence”, “Period of love's revenge”, “Period of indulging in sex and forgetting love”, and “Period of melancholic maturity and recreation of love”. In each woman the man seeks love but find loneliness.
