When big shoe industrialist Gondo is about to buy all his company shares from his associates, he gets an anonymous phone call informing him his son has been kidnapped. The ransom is close to the amount he was going to pay for this repurchase, which was his hope after a whole life of work... Despaired, he starts gathering money to save his son when an unexpected turn of events happens: the kidnappers who thought they got Gondo’s son, have, in fact, kidnapped his driver’s son... It is a terrible dilemma for the businessman to save this child who is not his own. All the elements of a thriller are brilliantly put together by Kurosawa: kidnappers spotting a victim without been noticed, phones repeatedly ringing, gangsters anonymous voices, car chases, hunt for the criminals, policemen’s emotions, acceleration of time, rise of dramatic tension...
