Shepherd Pagwa keeps a mysterious treasure in his yurt. One day, his two sons disobey his orders and open the chest. They won’t find fortune, but will unleash a terrible curse which floods the entire valley and destroy fields and harvests. The third brother leaves home to seek help from the wise hermit Arat.
Adapted from a famous Mongol folktale, Golden Yurt is the first coproduction made with a foreign country (East Germany), the first Mongol color motion picture film and the first fantasy movie which got permission to get made under Communist regime.
All exterior sequences have been shot by Mongolian director Dorjpalam Ravjaa, while all interior scenes have been directed in Babelsberg Studios by East-German director Gottfried Kolditz, who was famous for his easterns and sci-fi movies!.
