Gottfried Kolditz was born in 1922 in Germany. After Literature studies at Leipzig University, he becomes assistant stage director. Starting as a technician at Babelsberg Studios in 1955, he directs his first short movie in 1957. He became famous as a director of Easterns and sci-fi movies, such as Signals: A Space Adventure, an East-German pastiche of 2001: A space Odyssey. He dies in 1982 in Ljubljana, Slovenia.
