At the beginning of the nineties, China opened to the world like a spring flower making the cold northern winter melt. Dong and Chun have been together since their secondary school. They teach in an art school in Peking and live meagrely. As time flows, their passion has weakened, worn out by small domestic tensions. Apart of teaching, Dong paints the whole day in the college corridors, hoping his artistic work will bring enough money. Chun abandoned her own artistic work to stay at home. Dong catches Chun on the phone with her former boy-friend in the US. She aspires to live with him in the US, but is scared to leave everything behind her. Attempting to save their marriage, Dong takes Chun on a trip to visit old friends in a rural area. A few months later, he ends in a mental hospital.
Shot in black and white, The Days takes a look at Beijing and its young sensitive artists at the beginning of the nineties..
