Nanouk and Sedna, both about fifty, contentedly enjoy the traditional daily life of a couple of Yakoutes. They live alone in this frozen desert in northern Siberia. Every day, Nanouk goes off hunting for food and collecting drinking water. Sedna tans snow fox skins and sews together warm clothing, essential for survival in the intense cold. Chena is their only link with the outside world. He stocks up their wood and heating oil and brings them news of their daughter, Ága. Nanouk could not bear it when their daughter left them to go off and work in the huge diamond mine in Mirny. Day after day, they see visible changes in the age-old pace which up to now has regulated their lives and those of their forefathers. The catch of fish is going down, animals die for no apparent reason, the ice is melting, there are more and more planes and boats. Nanouk and Sedna seem to be the last representatives of a lifestyle going into extinction. They are going to have to face a new world. And they hope to face these changes together.
