Aygül and Cemal live a joyless life, stuck in an unhappy marriage with four children. After Cemal loses his job and Aygül is forced to go and work in a factory to support the family, she moves away taking their children with her and he tries to win them back…
A Sip of Love is symptomatic of Turkish movies in general of last decade, which studied more and more the destiny of women in society. This time, the plot does not take place in the countryside, where a woman would mean less than an animal, but Yilmaz points out traps of modern society. The movie doesn't only deals with equality within a couple, but also focuses on the womens' rights and to have the right to look for another man if the couple is not working anymore. Yilmaz succeeds in showing so, with some drama, but no pathos, without being a formal demonstration, but using plenty of humor.
