In 2019, a man named Naveen disappears from a memorial park in Sydney while travelling with his girlfriend Cathy. Having arrived in New York two years before, Naveen finds a job at a restaurant and meets Cathy there. As their relationship deepens, Naveen's lies become bolder. The man known as Naveen, or Sameer, cannot tell the truth about anything, including his name, nationality, religion, family, and past. Persecuted in one country for being a "non-Muslim" and in another for being a "Muslim", Naveen Cheema finds temporary shelter in the apparent protection of a fabricated identity.
“I only know one way of making films. I like to give a cinematic interpretation of certain personal feelings. My personal experience in relation to the traumatism that a particular identity can bring has played a crucial part in the way I think and see the world.” Mostofa Sarwar Farooki
